I've written about it before, and I'll do it again. Our campus, our college, and our cities do such a nightmarish approach to rape and sexual assault that most victims don't report, particularly since these systems often interpret this victim as lying, being ridiculous, or asking for it.
My latest City Paper column: Rape victims shouldn't report their assaults to campus police
Holy shit, Alison! This is such an important essay -- my heart sunk, to tell you the truth -- even as you educated me. I had no idea of these statistics and this opinion that the legal system is largely ineffective or at best works against victims. I am reminded of my own desolation in the face of many of the systems for the disabled, how I try to hope for right to prevail and how often it doesn't.
